These new spelling practice worksheets use a unique format that allows kids to write commonly misspelled words again and again, without becoming bored! In fact, all over this site, you'll find a wide variety of fun formats to keep your learners engaged.
On this page, students must write one letter in each blank to correctly spell each tricky word. I've included two pages at slightly different degrees of difficulty.
(As always, be sure to print and review this page before assigning it to your students. This way, you can be sure the difficulty level is appropriate for your students.)
1. Ask students to make pages like this for three spelling words that are challenging to them. Then ask kids to swap pages and complete each other's worksheets.
2. Every week or two, make pages like this for the entire class of the most difficult words on their spelling lists or from subject area texts.

Q: What are one or two of the best spelling practice techniques?
A: Repetition is obviously key. But it's also important for students to UNDERSTAND the meanings of the words they are learning and how to correctly use words in context. In the worksheet above, kids will get a lot of repetition, but they will need additional activities to understand and use the words properly. Fun dictionary games and writing prompts are very helpful activities.
Q: How many words should kids learn at a time?
A: This varies a lot by grade level and ability. Typically, I recommend the following number of words per week for these grade levels:
