Our free spelling games add a lot of fun to your weekly spelling word practice routine. Try one this week!
In this game, called Shady Spelling, we've created game boards at three different levels. The words come from our own graded spelling lists.
Directions:
1. Each pair
of students needs a game board,
a standard
die, and a light and
dark crayon of similar colors. For example, Player 1 needs
a dark blue crayon
and a light blue
crayon. Player 2 needs a dark green
crayon and a light green
crayon.
2. Players
take turns rolling the die and following these instructions:
Roll
1, 2, or 3: Color any correctly-spelled word on the board
with your dark crayon.
Roll
4, 5, or 6:
Cross out a misspelled word. Write it correctly in the space.
Color it with your light crayon.
3.
Near the end of the game, you may have to miss a turn. For example, if
you roll a 2 and there are no more correct words to color, you lose
that turn.
4. Play
until all the spaces are colored.
5. Check
your answers. Note that sometimes you can make more than one new word
from an incorrectly-spelled word.
6. The
player with the most correctly colored spaces is the winner.
