Fifth Grade Spelling Words

Our list of fifth grade spelling words has many uses!

Parents, use this list to give your child an extra boost in spelling. Practice words that are easily confused (capital/capitol, desert/dessert) and words with the same spelling patterns (cause/pause). Together, find the tricky words used correctly in real-life situations. Use the words in everyday conversation. Write them on whiteboards, tablets or text them to one another!

Teachers, refer to this list when you're looking for words to use in your own worksheets, spelling games and other language activities. Remember these words will be about right for most students. For some, you will need to supplement with easier words from my fourth grade list. Or perhaps you'll need to add more challenging words from my sixth or seventh grade list. 
 
Students, get a jump on your learning by studying this word list. Be sure you know the meaning of each word you learn to spell.

5th Grade Vocabulary Words - BIG list of 200 grade 5 vocabulary words!!! 100 are arranged in ten categories to engage your students in topics such as sports, adjectives, people, places, social studies, fruits and more! NEW! Compound Word Search - Students will put picture pairs together to form twenty compound words. For instance, a COW plus a BELL equals COWBELL. Some of the words aren't quite so obvious. Once students have formed all twenty compounds, they will need to locate each  word in the word search puzzle diagram. Double the puzzles, double the learning, double the fun!
